TF2 FAQ

How do I remove flames? +
The command to remove flames is "viewmodel_fov 0.1". Use this command, in conjunction with "r_drawviewmodel 0" and viewmodel/crosshair scripts (google that), you can turn off flames. Remember to make a backup of your current cfg folder before making major changes!
Which flamethrower should I use / is best? +
Depends on you! insert details
Shotgun or Flaregun(s)? +
Use whichever feels most comfortable! I encourage you to try as many combinations of weapons as you can, in as many situations as you can. This way, you can learn which set works for which situation!
Should I ever not use powerjack? +
No. Unless you wanna be a pybro or pyroshark, or want to destroy medic chains, or want to burn people in medieval mode, or want to get extra health kit heals.
How do I get better at X? +
Practice makes perfect. Be willing to start from a new perspective, even if it means sacrificing short-term performance.
What's the secret to reflects? +
2 things. Network, and range.
  • High ping and high interp (google it) have a significant affect on the second aspect or reflects.
  • Learn and shape your ranges. There are 3! Prediction, reaction, and the ??? range. The range where you can have to predict the rocket, the range where you can react to it by sound or sight, and the range in the middle where it becomes hard to tell. That ??? range moves closer or further from you based on network and skill/ability. The ??? range SHRINKS or GROWS based on your knowledge of yourself. Ideally, make that range as small as possible by playing a lot, and observing where you feel uncomfortable going for reflects.
Can you mentor me? +
Maybe! Send me an e-mail or tweet or leave a comment on my profile.
Can you give me any tips? +
This is a difficult question to answer, since there's a lot of potential things to cover! In general, I'd say focus on learning what IS and ISN'T a mistake, so you can better learn from them.
Do you use scripts? +
I use viewmodel scripts, as well as a null-cancelling movement script. That's pretty much it!
Can I have your config? +
I do have it available (see tf2/about), but since I used a config generator (google that) it's rather convoluted. I recommend making your own config, or using a config generator yourself! Remember to make a backup of your cfg folder before making big changes!
